It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Kathryn Mathys, who left this world peacefully on March 11, 2025, at the age of 56. Kathryn was born in Enumclaw, Washington, to the late Erwin Glen (Doc) and Marjorie Mathys. Kathryn spent her life nurturing a deep connection with the land and animals, ultimately realizing her dreams as the proud owner of Barnheart Homestead in Wellington, Kentucky.
Kathryn's journey was one filled with determination and compassion. A woman of great strength and resilience, she approached every challenge with a tenacious spirit and a positive outlook. Her caring and loyal nature touched the lives of many, as she generously shared both her heart and her dedication to self-sufficiency with those fortunate enough to know her. Kathryn's fierce independence was balanced by her commitment to community and family.
Educated at Louisiana Tech University, Kathryn graduated from the police academy in Louisiana, showcasing her diverse talents and her unwavering dedication to service. Despite her many accomplishments, the life she built at Barnheart Homestead served as her greatest pride, where she embodied the values of hard work and harmony with nature and animals.
Kathryn is survived by her beloved sister, Laura Mathys, of Shreveport, LA; her niece, Amanda Richardson (husband Eric), niece Allie Coleman and nephews Eli and Rowan Richardson, all of Thornton, CO; nephew Randall Poole of Lake Charles, LA and niece Emma Coleman of Shreveport, LA; a host of cousins, aunts and uncles and dear friends who will forever cherish the beautiful memories they created together. As a devoted member of the Christian faith, Kathryn found joy in the simplicity of life, living with a sense of purpose and peace that inspired those around her.
In addition to Kathryn's parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, James Mathys.
In honoring her memory, a celebration of life service will be held at the Barnheart Homestead in the future, date and time has not been determined at this time.
As we gather to celebrate the life of Anna Kathryn Mathys, may we remember her as a steadfast soul who loved fiercely and lived authentically. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the lives she touched, the farm she nurtured, and the legacy of love she leaves behind.
