With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Bessie Marie Esteppe Watkins, who peacefully transitioned on Tuesday afternoon, March 26, 2024, at the age of 67, at the University of Kentucky, Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Bessie was born on June 17, 1956, in Jeffersonville, Kentucky, to the late Ott and Della Mae Watkins Esteppe.
Bessie was a native of Montgomery County and a former nursing assistant. Bessie's life will be remembered for her love of spending time with family, tending to her flower garden, caring for her yard, fishing, and her unwavering dedication to helping others. Her compassionate and generous spirit, combined with her outspoken nature, touched the lives of many and will remain eternally cherished.
Bessie leaves behind her cherished boyfriend, Jose Rongel, sons James Kocher, George Watkins, and Tracy Esteppe, as well as grandchildren James Robert Kocher, Montana Marie Kocher, and Ben Hatton. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Hennessy Hatton and Raven Hatton, and siblings Georgia Hatton, Gracie Maddox, Fay Watkins, Nellie Lane, Kenneth Esteppe, Nelson Esteppe, Ronnie Curtis, and Timmy Esteppe.
Bessie was preceded in death by sisters Emmalou Catron and Barbara Jean Esteppe, and brothers Sterling Esteppe, Homer Esteppe, and Roy Esteppe.
