Billie Dean Fogle, 89, of Mt. Sterling, widow of John Cato Fogle, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the Windsor Care Center.
Mrs. Fogle was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, January 10, 1935, to Willie Buford Dause and Evadean Anderson Dause. Billie’s father was a skilled pipe fitter who moved with his family to work in military contracted nuclear facilities throughout the United States, including Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Brownsville Texas; Richland, Washington; and Paducah, Kentucky. Billie graduated high school in Paducah and received a full Ford Foundation scholarship to attend the University of Louisville, where she met her beloved future husband, “Cato.” Billie received her undergraduate and masters degrees from U. of L. and worked as an elementary teacher in the Jefferson County Public Schools and the Mt. Sterling City Schools. She was a proud Citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. She was an avid reader. Among many library support activities, she was instrumental in the campaign to create a local free public library. She was the first Board Chairman of the newly created Montgomery County Public Library from 1979 to 1985. Billie was an accomplished cook, seamstress, and golfer. She won several golf trophies and had two “holes in one” on the Mt. Sterling Country Club golf course. Billie loved traditional bluegrass music, especially gospel songs and songs featuring the mandolin.
Mrs.Fogle is survived by sons John (Lynn) Fogle III of Lexington and Will (Lisa) Fogle of Mt. Sterling. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Danny Dause of Tahlequah, OK and Willard Dause of New Mexico. Her surviving siblings are: Willie Buford Dause, Jr. of Ft. Gibson, OK, Patti Martin, of Tulsa, OK, Peggy Caughman of Ft. Gibson, OK and James Dause of Ft. Gibson, OK. She is survived by her grandchildren Jack Fogle of Lexington, Harry Fogle (Sara) of Marietta, GA, Gus Fogle and Landon Eli Fogle both of Mt. Sterling, KY.
A Memorial Service is planned for Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.in the Episcopal Church of the Ascension Prayer Garden, 48 W. High Street, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353. In lieu of flowers, the family requests persons who are so moved to consider making a memorial gift to the Church (P.O. Box 653, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353).
