Charles H. Butler, Sr., of Mt. Sterling, died on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at his residence. He was born on June 2, 1935 in Lee County to the late Taylor and Gladys Butler.
Charles was of the Christian faith, served in the United States Air Force, was a Korean War Veteran, KY Colonel and was Chief Deputy Jailer at Montgomery County Regional Jail for seventeen years. He helped install the local utilities used in Montgomery Counties first cable television service. He enjoyed UK Basketball, Cincinnati Reds Baseball and working in his garden. Charles took pride in his community and loved his children and grandchildren, he will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years Sharon Oakley Butler of Mt. Sterling; one son Charles "Chuck" Butler (Debbie) of Jeffersonville; four daughters Jennifer Shelton (Thomas) of Beattyville, Sandy Spicer of Beattyville, Becky Butler (Aaron Blevins) of Jeffersonville and Nicole Butler (Eric Allen) of Morehead; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother Harold Butler (Donna) of Lexington; two sisters Janice Shuler of Danville and Virginia Craig of Denver, CO; a special friend Mary Jewell of Mt. Sterling and his dog Odie.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019, at 2:00PM. Visitation will be prior from 12:00PM-2:00PM. Both will be held at Christian Assembly of God with Brother Scott Barnes officiating.
Pallbearers: Thomas Shelton, Eric Allen, Aaron Blevins, Aaron Shelton, Jerry Fryman, Leslie Spencer and Ricky Schuler.
Honorary Pallbearers: Hubert Manley, Norman Fugate and the St. Claire Hospice Team.
