Doris Marie Burns Carter, 68 of Mt. Sterling, died Monday, March 16, 2020 at St. Claire Hospital in Morehead. She was born in Mt. Sterling on October 22, 1951 to the late James William Burns and Dorothy Jones Jouett.
Doris was a native of Mt. Sterling, attended DuBois School and worked as an LPN at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. When she was in her early thirties she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and her life was forever changed.
She learned to live with her disability and after attending a vocational rehabilitation program Doris was employed for twelve years at Jerry's Restaurant. She had always enjoyed reading and was given the chance to give back to her community. Doris began volunteering her time at DuBois Community Center reading to children. She touched many lives and will be missed dearly by her friends, family and our community.
She is survived by one daughter, Shonda Burns (Lisa McIntosh) of Mt. Sterling; two sisters, Jennifer Jouett Jackson of Mt. Sterling and Gwendolyn Frances Dunklin (Terrence) of Trotwood, Ohio; two brothers, Vance Jouett (Christie) of Mt. Sterling and Lanny Jouett (Joetta) of Frankfort; one grandchild, Devin Wilbon of Mt. Sterling; four step grandchildren, Ashley Justice (Michael) of Jeffersonville, Lindsey McIntosh of Mt. Sterling, Logan Conner Craig and Zachary McIntosh both of Mt. Sterling; special aunt, Mae Nell Johnson (Greg) of Mt. Sterling; special friend, John McKnight of Lexington and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
In addition to her parents Doris was preceded in death by her father, Sanford Jouett and one brother, Mark Jouett
There will be a Memorial Service held at a later date.
