Dr. Leon Douglas Vaughan, 91, of Mt. Sterling, died Friday, June 28, 2013 at St. Joseph Mt. Sterling. He was born June 10, 1922 in Eubank, Kentucky to the late Glenn and Hallie Reynolds Vaughan.
Dr. Vaughan honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. He did his undergraduate studies at University of Kentucky and graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee where he received his Doctorate of Optometry. He moved to Montgomery County 57 years ago, started his private practice of Optometry and continued to serve the community until his retirement. Dr. Vaughn was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was Deacon Emeritus and a member of the Fishermen Sunday School Class. He has also served as past president of the Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include; his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Rix Vaughan of Mt. Sterling; one son, Douglas Ray Vaughan of Morehead; one sister, Betty Campbell of Lexington; four grandchildren, Glenn Vaughan, Darin Vaughan, Steve Vaughan, and Sarah Vaughan.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: First Baptist Church, 925 Woodford Drive, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353.
Pallbearers: Gary Mills, Jim McGinnis, Ronnie Murphy, Nelson Hatton, Nathan McGinnis, Bobby Davis, and Tim Martin.
Honorary Pallbearers: First Baptist Church Fisherman Sunday School Class.
