Elizabeth Ann Dowd Thornberry, 63, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Thursday morning, February 3, 2022 surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph Mt. Sterling. Ann has begun her well deserved rest after her two year courageous battle with glioblastoma. She was born in Cynthiana on June 14, 1958 to the late Anson and Lois Bachman Dowd.
Ann graduated from Depauw University with a bachelor of science degree in nursing and became the backbone of her husband's medical practice for over thirty years. Ann was never known to say a negative word about or toward anyone. She always tried to make others the focus of attention and include everyone in a conversation, valuing others opinions and knowledge. She was an accomplished rock climber, mountain climber, bicyclist, weight lifter, body builder, scuba diver, backcountry hiker and horseback rider. Ann even taught an English bulldog (Churchill) to understand over fifty words and phrases. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Ann is survived by her loving husband of forty-three years; Dr. Thomas Collier Thornberry; cherished children; Luke Collier Thornberry (Kelli) of Stanton and Elizabeth Anson Thornberry Kendall (Brian) of Lexington; adored grandson; Henry Thomas Kendall of Lexington; two brothers; Steve Dowd (Robin) of Springfield, Ohio and Ray Dowd (Jan) of Lexington; sister; Karen Dowd Lake of Sitka.
Private family service. Public memorial service will be announced at a later date.
