Emery "Bud" Spencer, 75, of Mt. Sterling, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Ridgeway Manor in Owingsville. He was born February 17, 1938 in Menifee County to the late Leonard Clay and Nancy Ann Back Spencer.
"Bud" had been a resident of Montgomery County since the age of five. He loved attending church and was a devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He worked many years for Trojan in maintenance and was later promoted to supervisor, but spent most of his life working as a farmer. He had a talent for repairing small motors which became one of his favorite hobbies. "Bud" had a special fondness for his dogs, Shy and Roscoe; he also enjoyed fishing and spending time with family.
Survivors include; his wife of fifty-four years, Mayme Ruth Reynolds Spencer of Mt. Sterling; two sons, Wayne Spencer (Kem) of Jeffersonville and Tim Spencer (Lisa) of Mt. Sterling; one daughter, Regina "Jeanie" Spencer Treadway (Doug) of Princeton; one brother, Glen Spencer (Bonnie) of Owingsville; five sisters, Mildred Colliver (Calvin "Shorty"), his twin sister Emma Hall, Barbara Rudd, and Anna Mae Hall (Forrest) all of Mt. Sterling, and Lucy Wilson (J.W.) of Bourbon County; five grandchildren, Monica Matney (Plennie) of Steele, Anthony Spencer of Menifee County, Timothy Spencer, Jr. (Keri) of Mt. Sterling, Matthew Treadway of Princeton, and Emily Spencer of Jeffersonville; two great grandchildren, Ashton Adkins of Steele and Eli Clay Spencer of Mt. Sterling; four step great grandchildren, Shane Matney, Erica Matney, Austin Matney, and Anthony Matney all of Steele.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Spencer, Arnold Spencer and Raymond Spencer; a sister, Alma Staton; a great grandson, Gabriel Adkins; three brothers-in-law, Henry Hall, Delmar Rudd and Harold Staton.
Pallbearers: Kevin Rudd, Matthew Treadway, Timothy Spencer, Anthony Spencer, Ashton Adkins, Randy Staton, and Dwayne Hall.
Honorary Pallbearers: Eric Arnold, Jeff Staton, Vaughn Ray Spencer, Roger Spencer, and Mike Staton.
