Florence (Donaldson) Smoot

Florence Donaldson Smoot, 97, of Mt. Sterling, died Monday, July 16, 2018 at St. Joseph Mt. Sterling.  She was born January 30, 1921 to the late John T. and Alice Tipton Donaldson.

Florence worked at Belks Department Store and was Montgomery County Native.  Her church family at Rolling Hills Church of Christ always remained close to her heart.  She loved to take tour bus trips with her husband and travel to Tennessee with her friends who will forever remember her as a great cook, homemaker and gardener. Florence will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Survivors include; her son Gerald Vinson (Betty) of Mt. Sterling, two daughters Gayle Tipton and Judith Cockrell (Tommy) both of Mt. Sterling, two brothers Woody Donaldson and Larry Donaldson (Phyllis) both of Mt. Sterling, six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years James Smoot, four brothers Cecil Donaldson, Earl Donaldson, George Donaldson and Kenneth Donaldson, three grandchildren Michelle Renee Cockrell, Angela Vinson Doll, James Mathew Cockrell and son-in-law Tom Tipton.

Funeral will be Friday, July 20, 2018 at 11:00AM, Visitation Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 5:00PM-8:00PM.  Both will be held at Rolling Hills Church of Christ in Mt. Sterling.  Danny Murphy, Jerry Carmichael and Eddie Ingram will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Rolling Hills Church of Christ or the Rolling Hills Church Camp.

Pallbearers: Kendall Vinson, Jason Vinson, Kevin Tipton, Jamie Compton, Dennis Hawkins and Paul Collins.

Honorary Pallbearers: Al Doll, Ronnie Donaldson, Earl Clay Donaldson, David Donaldson, George David Donaldson, Tommy Wills, Tracy Collins, Melodie Hawkins, Karen Compton, Dora Skidmore and Violet Elliott.
