Frances (Phillips) Shepherd

October 14, 1939 — March 30, 2023

Frances Phillips Shepherd, 83, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed from this life on Thursday afternoon, March 30, 2023, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on October 14, 1939, to the late John and Willie Mae Phillips.

Frances was born is Salisbury, North Carolina where she lived most of her life.  She enjoyed working in the yard, visiting with friends, caring for her animals and sharing pictures of her grandson.  Frances was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School and was retired from the North Carolina Public School System, where she had worked as a bus driver and instructional assistant for nearly thirty years.  She married the love of her life, Ralph Shepherd, in 1957.  Together, they enjoyed camping and traveling, especially to Carolina Beach.  Frances was adored by her family, friends, co-workers and students.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Lori Coffey (Ron) of Mt. Sterling; grandson, Sean Coffey of Mt. Sterling; bonus grandson, Eric Coffey (Lyn) of Colorado and many precious nieces, nephews and family friends.  Those left to miss her also include her cat friends, Beans, Campbell, Clara Belle, Corey, Loki and Sinatra.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph Shepherd, Sr.; son, Ralph Shepherd, Jr. and sisters, Betty Hamilton and Clara "Tootsie" Carter.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Salisbury, North Carolina.
