In loving memory of Gary Bowling, a devoted father, grandfather, and brother, who passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 9, 1949, in Kentucky to the late Eli and Reba Bowling. Gary, spent his life in Mount Sterling, where he worked diligently as a carpenter in the construction industry.
Gary will be dearly missed by his daughters Jessica Johnson (James) and Sarah Bowling, his grandchildren Brennan Young (Mishayla), and Devin Young; great-grandchild Elias Elliot Young. He is also survived by his siblings AJ Bowling (Linda), Anna Lee Thompson, Gail Leach, Karen Donithan (Larry), Kathy Hiler (Charlie), Gloria Maddox (Phillip), and Veronica Center.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Ronnie Thompson.
Gary was a United States Army veteran and a man of many talents and interests, Gary found joy in hiking, geology, hunting, and fishing. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 22 in Mt. Sterling, a member of the rock hounding group Southeast Kentucky Gem, Mineral & Fossil Club, and was a member of the Camargo Church of God.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Gary's life will be held at the Camargo Church of God on August 28, 2024, at 10:00 am, with visitation the day before on August 27, 2024, at 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Pastor Aaron Conn will be officiating. Burial will follow in Machpelah Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Brennan Young, Devin Young, Kenny Toy, Jason Leach, James Johnson, Mike Hinkle, Michael Tufano, and Freddie Sorrell.
