Gearldine "Granny" "Jerry" Byrd Wells, 91, of Mt. Sterling, died Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Frenchburg on September 21, 1927 to the late Henry and Elizabeth Vancleve Byrd.
"Granny" worked at Mary Chiles Hospital, a coat factory and could be found working in the tobacco fields up to the age of 70. She had a larger than life personality; loved to laugh and joke with those she spent time with and will always be remembered as "Granny".
Survivors include; five daughters Joyce McNabb (Shelby) of Muncie, IN, Ginger Wells of Piketon, OH, Vivian Luke Martin (Ricky) of Mt. Sterling, Trudy Bringar of Clay City and Jay Wilburn of Clay City; two sons Earl Wayne Wells (Barbara) of Jeffersonville and Ronnie Wells (Bonnie) of Middletown, OH; seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Earl Wells; six sisters; three brothers; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 2:00PM. Visitation will be prior from 12:00PM-2:00PM, both will be at Jeffersonville Baptist Church. Committal Service to follow funeral at Fortune Cemetery in Mt. Sterling. Pastor Scott Barnes will be officiating.
Pallbearers: Steven McNabb, Earl White, Chris Wells, Eric McNabb, Douglas Martin, Daniel Martin, J.R. Luke and Devon McNabb.
Honorary Pallbearer Michael Wells.
The family has requested that in-lieu of flowers donations can be make to Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
