George Donald Ellis, 84, of Sharpsburg, passed away Monday afternoon September 5, 2022 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 22, 1938 in Bath County, Kentucky to the late Omar and Lida Francis Hawkins Ellis.
George was a Bath County native, born in the Bald Eagle community, residing in Sharpsburg and a member of Church of the Nazarene, Mt. Sterling for fifty years. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. George stood guard at the Berlin Wall. George was the youngest police officer hired on the Mt. Sterling Police Department at twenty-three years of age and served from 1961 to 1963, he also served as Sheriff of Bath County for one day during an interim phase. George went on to be a court bailiff in Mt. Sterling for seven years. He retired as a route driver and salesman with the Rainbow Baking Company. George enjoyed; attending church, eating breakfast at Hardee's, spending time with his family and spoiling his grandsons and grand dogs; Penelope and Buddy. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
George is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly sixty-two years; Atha Clay Gilvin Ellis; cherished son; Don Ellis and beloved daughter-in-law Sabrina of Sharpsburg; beloved daughter; Tina Ellis of Mt. Sterling; three grandsons; Michael Setters, Dalton Ellis and Eric Griffin; two brothers; Owen Ellis (Cheryl) of Grove City, Ohio and R.D. Ellis of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister; Vergie Epperson (Bill) of Hot Springs, Arkansas; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Patty and Dola Rader; special nephew; Doug Ellis (Tonya); special niece; Shawn Lewis and Libby Groves (Jody); special friend John Kohr.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers; Oscar Ellis, Joe Ellis, Henry Ellis, Roger Ellis and Ewell Thomas Ellis.
Private Celebration of Life will take place with John Kohr and Todd Rader officiating.
