Gerald Lee Vinson, 76, of Mt. Sterling, died Wednesday afternoon, October 28, 2020 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington. He was born in Mt. Sterling on August 31, 1944 to the late Estill "Jack" Vinson and Florence Donaldson Smoot.
Gerald was a Montgomery County native, member of the Rolling Hills Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and a United States Army veteran. Gerald retired from Hobart as a quality inspector and also was the owner of Vinson's Sporting Goods. He enjoyed; hunting, fishing, golfing, woodworking, UK basketball, traveling and watching western movies. He'll be dearly missed by his family, church family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Betty Linkous Vinson of Mt. Sterling; two sons, Kendall Vinson (Jennifer) of Roanoke, Virginia and Jason Vinson (Channing) of Lexington; six grandchildren, Brandon Vinson of Roanoke, Virginia, Ethan Doll (Emmalee) of Lexington, Cameron Doll of Lexington, Logan Vinson of Roanoke, Virginia, Alyssa Doll and Megan Doll, both of Lexington; one sister, Gayle Tipton of Mt. Sterling.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Vinson Doll; sister, Judy Cockrell and step-father, James Smoot.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rolling Hills Church of Christ and Rolling Hills Bible Camp.
Funeral will be Friday, November 6, 2020 at 12:00PM with military honors. Visitation will be prior from 10:00AM to 12:00PM, services will be at Rolling Hills Church of Christ with burial following at Machpelah Cemetery. Dan Murphy, Jerry Carmichael, Eddie Ingram and Bob Tipton will be officiating.
Pallbearers: Brandon Vinson, Ethan Doll, Cameron Doll, Logan Vinson, Raymond Donaldson, Tony Conkright, Nate Allison and Randy Carmichael.
Honorary Pallbearers: Elders of Rolling Hills Church of Christ: Jerry Carmichael, Doug Trent, Mike Donaldson, Kenny Gulley, Eddie Ingram, Jim Welch and good friends, George David Donaldson, Gene Meadows and Earl Gilvin.
