Gwendolyn Ruth Buckler-Mayer, 90, died Monday, December 2, 2024 at CHI St. Joseph Health, Mt. Sterling, KY. She was preceded by her husband, John Mayer, Jr., of 63 years. She was a mother of five, a retired City Clerk/Treasurer, Editor of the Menifee County Journal, and a News reporter for WMST-Radio.
Gwendolyn was born on April 16, 1934, in Kings Mountain, Kentucky, to the late William Alford and Roxie Ethel Robertson-Buckler. She attended Eastern State University (aka Eastern State Teachers College), worked for the Federal Reserve Bank; the City of Frenchburg; Newspapers Inc; Traders Bank (aka Traditional Bank), and WMST-Radio. She was a homemaker, member of the Frenchburg/Menifee County Chamber of Commerce; past Menifee County Board of Education; Menifee County Extension Council; Menifee County Homemakers and a chartered Board member of the Edgewood Estates Nursing Home. Gwendolyn, also volunteered and served on many community organizations and received many awards.
Gwendolyn is survived by her five children, John Phillip Mayer (Laurie), Jeffrey Patrick Mayer (Marina), Wendy R. Von Seggern (Thomas), Crystal M. Daugherty, and William A. Mayer (Holly); Fifteen grandchildren; Jennifer Mayer, Brian Mayer, Kevan Mayer, Michelle Tally, Robert Ketterer, Kimberly Mayer, Christopher Mayer, Andrew Von Seggern, Eric Von Seggern, Amanda Lauby, Jade Daugherty, Katarina Mayer, Kabren Stempa, Eden Stempa and Callie Stempa; Ten great grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Buckler (Catherine), Donald Buckler; sister-in-law, Gloria Buckler and brother-in-law, James Mayer (Betty); along with host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gwendolyn is preceded in death by her brothers, James Maryland Buckler (Betty), Everett Buckler with sisters, Gladys Edwards, Evelyn Rolph, and Violet Stone.
Celebration of Life will be Saturday, December 14, 2024, 12:00PM at Frenchburg Baptist Church.
