Helen "Gayle" (Hughes) Stone

Helen Gayle Stone, peacefully passed away on October 7, 2023, at the age of 83. She was born to the late Emanuel and Sitha Hughes on April 26, 1940, in Beulan, KY, and resided in Mt. Sterling at the time of her passing. Gayle left behind a legacy filled with love, compassion, and cherished memories.

Throughout her life, Gayle was known for her radiant personality and infectious laughter. As a majorette dancer and cheerleader during her high school years, she brought joy to the hearts of many. Her passion for education led her to become a dedicated teaching assistant, where she touched the lives of countless students, leaving an indelible mark of kindness and encouragement.

Gayle found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She adored listening to her late husband, Lyle Stone, sing at various functions and cherished their memories together. A woman of style and grace, Gayle took pride in her appearance, dressing up and applying her makeup each day. She enjoyed shopping, finding the perfect treasures to add to her collection. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she delighted in preparing delicious meals, especially her angel food cake for her family and friends. She also enjoyed going out to eat, especially at their favorite restaurant, Jerry's, was a frequent occurrence.

Not only did Gayle love to dance, she found solace and joy in attending social gatherings. Gayle's vibrant spirit and zest for life were evident as she danced the night away and created lasting memories with her loved ones.

Deeply rooted in her faith, Gayle was a proud member of the First Christian Church. Her devout Christian beliefs guided her actions, and she spent her life caring for and showing compassion towards others. Gayle will be remembered for her unwavering love and support for her family, friends, and community.

Gayle leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by her daughter Regina Calvert (Steve); sons Jeff Stone and Greg Stone (Deadra); grandsons Taylor Calvert, Tanner Calvert (Natalie) and Clay Stone (Allison Gentry); granddaughter Amber Stone; great grandson Drew Stone; sisters Faye Greco, Maxine Vice (Arnold) and Bessie Holley (Phil); brothers Richard Hughes (Linda) and Billy Highes (Judy); sister-in-laws Phyllis Halloran and Virginia Hughes; brother-in-law Ralph Grigsby and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Gayle is preceded in death by sisters Joyce Grigsby, Brenda Lee (Larry), Charlene Carroll (Ed) and Emmalene Napier (Wiley); brothers Darrell Hughes, James Hughes, Don Hughes and Eddie Hughes.

A private graveside service will be observed.
