Homer Nickels, 87, of Mt. Sterling, died Tuesday afternoon, November 7, 2017 at St. Joseph Mt. Sterling. He was born October 24, 1930 in Floyd County to the late Kelly and Ada Slone Nickels.
Homer was a Knott County native and moved to Montgomery County in 1945, of the Christian faith, graduated from Camargo High Scholl and retired as a school bus driver. He enjoyed; sports, UK basketball, hunting, fishing, farming and carpentry. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include; his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Marilyn Smiley Nickels of Mt. Sterling; two sons, Tom Nickels (Joyce) of Georgetown and Doug Nickels of Mt. Sterling; three sisters, Irene Thacker of Dayton, Ohio, Ermajean Harvey of Jeffersonville and Pauline Fitzpatrick of Mt. Sterling; several beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; very special sister-in-law, Jackie Smiley Moore.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Nickels and Chris Nickels; two sisters, Genevie Hunter and Vertalee Pratt; two brothers, Hawley Nickels and Herman Nickels.
