Mt. Sterling

Irene Gay Douthitt was born on October 8, 1926, to the late George and Mary Gay of Menifee, Kentucky. She was united in holy matrimony to Arthur Douthitt, Sr. on June 29, 1945.  Two sons, Arthur Douthitt, Jr., and William Anthony Douthitt were born to this union.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.

She attended her early education in Menifee, Kentucky.

Irene had a vibrant spirit and a radiant smile.  She was a choir member.  An alto, one could hear her angelic voice harmonizing and blending perfectly with the choir.  A testament to her devotion and commitment to the Lord.

Guided by her unwavering faith and Christian beliefs, she led a life marked by compassion, love, and devotion.  She embraced life's experiences with simplicity.   Her dedication to her family was an inspiration. Her warm heart and kind soul touched the hearts of many who was fortunate enough to be graced by her presence always leaving an impression.

She found comfort in the simple things such as being a wife and mother.  Being a homemaker was especially important to her.  She enjoyed cooking everything.  She was noted for baked pies of all flavors.

Her favorite color was pink.  She found joy in beautiful flowers.  She also enjoyed working in her flower gardens in both the front and back yard.  She always had a beautiful mix of perennials and annuals that bloomed from early spring to late fall.

She loved fashion.  This showed up in various church functions, banquets, and receptions.  Always classy and always in style.

She went home to rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior on the morning of January 20, 2024, being celebrated by a cloud of witnesses on her homecoming. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Arthur, Sr., granddaughter, Heather Nichole Douthitt, grandsons, Arthur Douthitt, III and Arthur Douthitt IV.  Three brothers, Perry Gay, Elmer Gay, Gene Gay, and a sister Bessie Harris.

Irene leaves to cherish many wonderful memories, her two sons, Arthur Douthitt, Jr. (Vedra) and Wiliam Anthony (Tony) Douthitt; granddaughter Katisha Cecil (Will), one great grandson, Alexander Neal, and great granddaughters, Breydan Neal, Mashayla Cecil, and Taniah Cecil.  Also, one brother-in-law, Randy Randolph and host of nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces as well as great-great nephews and nieces.
