Jack W. Denton, 87, of Mt. Sterling, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at St. Joseph Mt. Sterling.  He was born April 11, 1929 in Brocton, Illinois to the late Sib and Ollie Watkins Denton.

Jack lived in California for most of his life, after a five year stint administering and teaching in Germany, Spain and Cuba with the United States Army.  He and his late first wife, Beverly, taught for thirty years in Mt. Diablo Unified School District, California, where they raised their three children.  Jack was a United States Army veteran, a strong believer in the Lord and a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church.  He was an avid painter, golfer and family man.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include; his wife, Carol Base of Friant, California; two sons, Stan Denton (Andrea) of Salt Lake city, Utah and Craig Denton (Nancy) of Vail, Colorado; one daughter, Connie Denton-Jehlik (Michael) of Mt. Sterling; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Denton; his brother, James Denton and his sister, Betty C'Mar.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.

Celebration of Life service will be Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Sterling Meadows at 3:30PM.  Michael Jehlik will be officiating.
