James Elliott "Coach" Scott

James Elliott "Coach" Scott, 57, of Mt. Sterling, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his residence. He was born on September 21, 1955 to the late Roger and Elizabeth Goldsby Scott.

James accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the High Street Christian Church; he was a graduate of Montgomery County High School and continued his education at Sue Bennett College followed by Eastern Kentucky University. He later gained his Masters of the Arts in Education at Morehead State University in 1984, where he returned back home to his alma mater to begin his work in the community. James was employed by the Montgomery County Board of Education for 28 years as a Health Educator. Within those years, he served as the head coach for the boys McNabb Middle school basketball and football teams. Also, track and cross country teams, assistant basketball and football teams at Montgomery County High School. In his spare time, he was an umpire/referee for local and distal baseball and basketball teams. In the 1981-1982, Coach Scott was named and honored as "Teacher of the Year." In 2012 Coach Scott was inducted into the 10th Region Hall of Fame. With so much love and knowledge of the game, he took his expertise on to Kentucky Christian University where he assisted the men's basketball team to win a mid-east region championship. Then went on to coach Lexington's semi-pro team the Bluegrass Stallions and the Central Kentucky Express (KBDL).

Survivors include; his wife of 31 years, Linda Puckett Scott of Mt. Sterling; three sons, Scotty Taulbee (Becky), Mark Taulbee, and Akeem Jamaal Scott (Jamica) all of Mt. Sterling; one daughter, Keia Scott-Newsome (Jimmie) of Lexington; one brother, George Scott of Mt. Sterling; six grandchildren, Travis Taulbee, Elizabeth Taulbee, Shaddai Scott, Allison Taulbee, Braelyn Taulbee all of Mt. Sterling, and Charleigh Newsome of Lexington; sister-in-law, Bonita Scott of Mt. Sterling; two Nephews, Johnny Story of Nashville, Tennessee and Lee Story (Carla) of Mt. Sterling; six nieces, Roxie McKee of Lafayette, Indiana, Sonya Scott of Mt. Sterling, Diedra Scott-Hayden of Lexington, Candace Scott of Frankfort, Tyra Campbell (Eddie) of Mt. Sterling, and Tara Thomas of Louisville; a host of great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Roger "Dink" Scott and a sister, Elizabeth Story.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the James "Coach" Scott Funeral Fund, P.O. Box 1334, Mount Sterling, Kentucky 40353 or to Relay for Life of Montgomery County, 1890 Osborne Road, Mount Sterling, Kentucky 40353.

Pallbearers: Scotty Taulbee, Mark Taulbee, Akeem Scott, Travis Taulbee, Shaddai Scott, and Jimmie Newsome.

Honorary Pallbearers: Marvin Scott, Donny Scott, Albert Clemons, Jr., Charles Scott, and Lowell King.
