James Michael Staton, 38, of South Daytona, Florida died Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the VA Medical Center in Orlando, Florida. He was born in Morehead on October 27, 1981 to Betty Ross Staton and James Randall Staton.
Michael was a graduate of Montgomery County High School and of Morehead State University where he earned his bachelor's degree. He was a United States Air Force Veteran who recently received his private pilot's license, instrument rating and was in the process of obtaining his commercial pilot's license. Ever the student, he focused on learning many different subjects and was a good teacher to others.
His family and friends knew an extremely generous, thoughtful lover of life. Michael enjoyed computers, aviation, motorcycles and riding bikes, fishing, boating, shooting/marksmanship, competitive video gaming and his garden. He remained passionate about many different things such as his pets, UK Basketball and music. Above all he loved his family and friends and they will miss him dearly.
Michael is survived by his mother, Betty Ross Staton; his father, Randy Staton (Becky); one sister, Allison Lykins (Wesley) and two nieces, Hannah Lykins and Abby Lykins, all of Mt. Sterling.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Mammie Stamper Ross formerly of Beattyville and Harold and Alma Spencer Staton, formerly of Mt. Sterling.
Memorial Service will be held Monday, August 24, 2020 at 7:00PM. Visitation will be held prior from 6:00PM-7:00PM. Both will take place at Gateway Christian Church's property located at 2025 Maysville Road, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353. Pastor Bill Kilgore and Pastor Glenn Emery will be officiating the service.
Pallbearers: Wesley Lykins, Dwayne Hall, Forest Hall, Eric Arnold, Paul Willis, Jeff Staton, Mike Staton, Jerry Willis, Delmaine Vinson and Leon Sorrell.
Honorary Pallbearers: Thomas Crabtree, Kevin Martin, Collin Przygoda, Jimmy Welch, Zach Looney, Josh Spencer and Nathan Vinson.
