James "Jimmy" Shelby Barnard

January 24, 1940 — September 7, 2014

James "Jimmy" Shelby Barnard, 74, of Mt. Sterling, died Sunday morning, September 7, 2014 at St. Joseph Mt. Sterling. He was born January 24, 1940 in Mt. Sterling to the late R.L., Sr. and Gertrude Guilfoile Barnard.

Jimmy was a Montgomery County native and a graduate of Mt. Sterling High School where he played football for the Mt. Sterling Trojans. He was a graduate of Western Kentucky University, a business teacher and football coach at Shelby County high school and later worked as a salesman for Jostens until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Recreation Bowl and past member of the Mt. Sterling Golf and Country Club. Jimmy enjoyed UK Football, playing golf and spending time with his family.

Survivors include; his wife, Sherrie Bates Barnard of Mt. Sterling; one son, Sean Donohew of Mt. Sterling; three sisters, Jane Browning (Boyd), Nelle O'Daniel (Jerry) and Retta Moore all of Lexington; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, R.L. Barnard, Jr., Robert E. Barnard and Joe Barnard; three sisters, Kaye Pierce, Virginia Enoch and Anne Salisbury.

Pallbearers: Dr. Mark O'Daniel, Tim Enoch, Joe Barnard, Mike Barnard, Jim Pierce, Gerry Barnard, and John Pierce.

Honorary Pallbearers: Jerome O'Daniel, Terry Barnard, Boyd Browning, Jr., Robbie Barnard, Harry Enoch, David Enoch, Kevin Barnard, and Mark Barnard.
