John Monroe "Big John" Carpenter

February 13, 1962 — June 2, 2013

John Monroe "Big John" Carpenter, 51, of Mt. Sterling, died Sunday morning, June 2, 2013 at St. Joseph Mt. Sterling. He was born in Mt. Sterling on February 13, 1962 to Rollie and Vernell Walters Carpenter.

"Big John" was a Montgomery County native, employed at East Kentucky Power, a member of Spring Street Baptist Church, and a member of Southern Brothers. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting and fishing.

Survivors include; his parents Rollie and Vernell Carpenter of Mt. Sterling; one son, Rollie Monroe Carpenter of Mt. Sterling; one sister, Connie Watson of Mt. Sterling; a niece, Rena Thacker (Mitchell) of Mt. Sterling; three great nieces, Makayla Stigall, Madison Stigall and KiLeigh Thacker all of Mt. Sterling; a very special friend, Debbie Purvis of Mt. Sterling.

"Big John" was preceded in death by a nephew, Keith Watson.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the John Carpenter Funeral Fund, P.O. Box 1334, Mount Sterling, Kentucky 40353.

Pallbearers: Ricky Byrd, Dewayne Butler, Mitchell Thacker, Rollie Carpenter, Elmo Sutton, Jerry Holbrook, Chuck Butler, and Jim Pierce.

Honorary Pallbearers: Debbie Purvis, Earl Edmunson, Bobby Edmunson, Jerry Allen, Tyler Carpenter, Alvin Leach, Johnny Meyers, and Johnny Purvis.
