John Paul Sturgill, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2024, at the age of 90 at St. Joseph East Hospital, Lexington. He was born on August 11, 1933, in Pound, Virginia, to the late Roy and Ruth Bolling Sturgill. John lived a fulfilling life surrounded by his loving family.

A retired machinist from Rockwell International, John dedicated his time to his work with passion and precision. His service in the United States Air Force was a source of great pride for him, reflecting his deep commitment to his country.

Known for his love of hunting, fishing, and cheering on his favorite sports teams, John had a special place in his heart for NASCAR races and being an avid supporter of UK basketball and football. These passions reflected his zest for life and his unwavering dedication to the things he loved.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Lena Sturgill of Mt. Sterling, his sons Eddie Sturgill of Jeffersonville and Greg Sturgill of Jeffersonville, his daughters Ruth Ann Wright (Tyler) of Jeffersonville and Reva Sturgill of Owingsville, and his sister Rita Salyers of Kingsport, Tennessee. John was also a treasured grandfather to seven grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to twenty great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Sturgill; daughter, Pamela Wilson; granddaughter, Kelsey Ann-Rochelle Wilson; siblings, Helen Gardner, Hazel Becraft, Carl Sturgill and Ann Hampton.

A celebration of John's life will take place at 1:00PM on Sunday June 9, 2024 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 5057 Levee Road, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353.
