John G. McCormick, Jr., 82, better known as "Jack" McCormick, of Mt. Sterling, died Friday morning, June 7, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Mt. Sterling on January 12, 1931 to the late John and Kelly Barnes McCormick.
Jack was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County where he was a partner in the family business, McCormick Lumber Co. After his retirement in 1993 he enjoyed collecting and selling antiques. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in United States Air force and a lifelong member of the First Christian Church.
Jack was married to Gayle Henry McCormick for 62 years and raised three sons, Kent, Mac and Denny McCormick.
Jack is survived by his wife, Gayle McCormick of Mt. Sterling; two sons, Mac McCormick (Connie) and Denny McCormick (Cindy) all of Mt. Sterling; a brother, Ollie W. McCormick (Elizabeth) of Mt. Sterling; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren all of Mt. Sterling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Kent McCormick and one sister Adelaide Roberts.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 222 West Main Street, Mount Sterling, Kentucky 40353.
There will be a Graveside service at Machpelah Cemetery, Monday, June 10, 2013 at 2:30PM. Pastor Scott Holley and Rev. Dr. Lon Oliver will be officiating. Afterwards friends are invited to visit with the family at 721 Maplewood Drive to celebrate Jack's life.
