Joseph "Joe" Carter Bonee, 71, of Mt. Sterling, died on Monday, July 15, 2019 at his residence. He was born on June 7, 1948 in Union City, Tennessee to Mary Sue Bowlin and the late Harold Carter Bonee.
Joe was a Captain in the United States Air Force where he flew B-52's. Following his military career he earned a masters degree and taught mathematics and chemistry at Sullivan's Spencerian College. Joe developed patented methods used by Ashland Oil to decontaminate soil and make it safe for handling. In his private life flying was a constant passion, along with the Green Bay Packers football team and spending time with his family. Joe will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of twenty years, Carolyn Jo Lykins Bonee of Mt. Sterling; mother, Mary Sue Bowlin Bonee; one son, Jeb Bonee White (Jilian) of PN; three daughters, Louise Mercer of OR, Teresa Bellamy of Mt. Sterling and Tina Setters (Jeff) of Owingsville; one brother, Thomas Bonee (Kelley) of IL; three sisters Mary Ann Yarbrough (Danny) of Kevil, Judy Rennels (Stephen) of Paducah and Karen Conyers (Jim Whitman) of Paducah; twelve grandchildren, Finnegan White, Siena White both of PN, Aiden Mercer of OR, Hunter Wall, Bobby Bonee and David Bonee all of Louisville, Faith Ann Bonee and Christian Stewart of IN, Kaleb Curtis (Jessica) of Litchfield, Dakota Bellamy of Mt. Sterling, Jordan Setters (Ross Marks) of OH and Whitney Setters (Joey Smallwood) of Owingsville; four great grandchildren Kambria Marks and Paisleigh Marks of OH and Dawson Smallwood of Owingsville and Kaylee Curtis of Litchfield.
In addition to his father Joe was preceded in death by one son, Robert Bonee.
Funeral Service will be Monday, July 22, 2019, at 11:00AM. Visitation will be Sunday, July 21, 2019, from 5:00PM-8:00PM, both will be held at Gateway Christian Church in Mt. Sterling. Committal will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County. Bill Kilgore will be officiating.
Pallbearers: Gary Young, Jeff Setters, Joey Smallwood, Joey Ulery, Kaleb Curtis, Hunter Wall, Aiden Mercer and Teresa Bellamy.
Honorary Pallbearers: Whitney Setters, Jordan Setters and Dakota Bellamy.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Joe Bonee Memorial Fund, PO Box 41, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353.
