It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce Mae Hunt Kirk, 84, a beloved member of the Mt. Sterling community. Born on May 13, 1940, in Bethel to the late George Hunt and Willie Gilvin McVey. Joyce was a cherished daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend. She peacefully passed away on November 24, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by loved ones.
Joyce was known for her kind and selfless nature, always willing to lend a helping hand and dedicating her time to volunteering in various community initiatives. Her dedication extended to her faith, as she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Sterling.
Joyce found joy in her work as a cashier in the school cafeteria. She took pride in her job and the connections she made with students and colleagues throughout the years.
Joyce had a passion for traveling and exploring new places, a love she shared with her daughter and late husband Jim Kirk. Together, they were avid supporters of football, cheering on teams like the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, and Montgomery County Indians. Their dedication to attending MOCO Indians games earned them an award for the most consecutive game appearances.
With a love for reading and a soft spot for her fur babies, Joyce's warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her. She is survived by her daughters Lynn Kirk and Cami Cole (Robbie), as well as her grandchildren James Kirk, Gabriel Kirk, Kelly Cole, Jerrod Cole, and George Wu, and nieces Tammy Selleck (John) and Debbie Moore.
In addition to Joyce's parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Kirk in November 2018.
In honor of Joyce's memory, a Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on November 30, 2024, at 11:00 am. Pastor Eric Patterson will be officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers: Booker George, Violet George, Jerry Peters, Debbie Creech, and the women of the First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Joyce's memory to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter, 115 Adena Drive, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353.
As we come together to mourn the loss of Joyce Mae Kirk, let us remember her vibrant spirit, unwavering kindness, and the profound impact she left on all those who have had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be a blessing and may her legacy of love and compassion live on in our hearts forever.
