Joyce Ann Sweeney Mathis, 70, of Mount Sterling, passed away Tuesday morning, November 30, 2021 at Owenton Health Care and Rehabilitation. She was born on October 25, 1951 in Louisville, KY to Helen Sofia Sweeney.
Joyce has been a resident of Montgomery County for seven years, moving from Louisville. She was of the Christian faith and attended Rolling Hills Church of Christ. She was a retired administrative assistant for the Kentucky Department of Education. She enjoyed; going to church, square dancing, playing cards, baking cookies with the grandchildren and spending time with her husband. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Joyce is survived by her stepson; Chris Mathis (Kari) of Dry Ridge; stepdaughter; Jill Williams (Jamey) of Sumter, South Carolina; six grandchildren; sister; Mary Snyder (Wayne) of Louisville; niece; Cheryl Winsor of Mt. Sterling.
In addition to her mother, Joyce was preceded in death on June 18, 2021 by her beloved husband of thirty-three years; Michael W. Mathis.
Memorial Service for Joyce Mathis will be at 10:00AM Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Rolling Hills Church of Christ, Mt. Sterling. Interment will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville. Brother Dan Murphy and Brother Jerry Carmichael will be officiating.
