Juan D. Cunningham, Jr.

September 6, 1987 — December 5, 2024

Mt. Sterling

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juan Diego Cunningham, Jr., 37, who departed this life on December 5, 2024, at UK Medical Center. Born on September 6, 1987, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, Juan touched the lives of many with his vibrant spirit and warm personality.

A dedicated husband and father, Juan leaves behind his beloved wife, Amanda Danielle Cunningham, and their cherished son, Jayden Matthew Cunningham. He is also survived by his father, Juan Cunningham, Sr., and his mother, Amanda Overstreet Cunningham, father and mother-in-law, Steve and Kathy Schooler, paternal grandparents, Raymond Burns and Shirley Cunningham and his fur babies, Molly Grace and Kobe and a special "brother" Matthew Overstreet, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Juan is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Amanda Alston, Mary Overstreet and William "Tookie" Johnson.

Juan's love for his family was evident in everything he did, especially in the special moments spent teaching Jayden the intricacies of golf-a sport that not only brought Juan joy but also forged a lasting bond with his son.

Juan was a dedicated store manager at Hibbett Sporting Goods, where his passion for sports and commitment to excellence shone brightly. His love of competition extended beyond his work, as he avidly participated in golf tournaments, including state amateur events where he won Kentucky Player of the Year for multiple years. His competitive nature was matched only by his fun-loving, laid-back outlook on life, making him a friend to so many. He was well-known for his impressive shoe collection and his ability to bring joy and positivity into any room he entered.

In his final act of faith, Juan was recently baptized alongside his son, reaffirming his commitment to a life of love and Christian values. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him and celebrated his life.

Friends and loved ones are invited to honor Juan's memory during a visitation at the First Church of God on December 9, 2024, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. A funeral service will take place at the same location on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 10:00AM, followed by a burial at Machpelah Cemetery. Pastor Daniel Lykins will be officiating.
