Keena Wagers Hicks, a beloved member of the Mount Sterling community, passed away on December 11, 2023, at the age of 77. Keene was born on November 7, 1946, in Richmond, KY, and moved to Montgomery County twenty-five years ago, where she made a lasting impact on those who knew her.
With a feisty personality and a determination unmatched by many, Keena embraced life with unwavering strength and resilience. As a dedicated corrections officer at the Montgomery County Regional Jail, she approached her work with unwavering professionalism and a commitment to maintain justice and safety within the community.
Away from her professional life, Keena enjoyed various hobbies that brought her joy and fulfillment. She had a deep love for animals and would always extend a helping hand to any furry friend in need. In the kitchen, Keena was known for her culinary skills, particularly her mouthwatering chocolate chip cheesecake and perfectly fried chicken. Friends and family would often gather around the table, savoring each bite, and treasuring the precious moments shared.
Keena had an adventurous spirit and loved watching captivating scary movies, finding solace in the thrill and suspense they brought. She also had a sweet tooth and could never resist indulging in her favorite sweets. Additionally, her love for the color purple radiated through her life, reflecting her vibrant and lively personality.
Keena found solace in her Christian faith and was a member of the First Christian Church in Richmond, Kentucky. Her belief in salvation and love brought her comfort and peace during both joyful and challenging times.
She will be deeply mourned and forever cherished by her loving daughter, Kristin Scrivner (Jim) of Mt. Sterling, who meant the world to her. The bond between mother and daughter was unbreakable, filled with countless memories of love, laughter, and endless support. Also survived by her two beautiful grandchildren; Lauren Huntzinger (Josh) and Megan Garrett (Tre), both of Mt. Sterling; two great grandchildren, Hayden Kane and Halle Kate; sister-in-law, Janie M. Hicks of Richmond; niece, Markeena Bucknam (Kevin) of Lexington; nephew, John Hicks (Sarai) of Georgetown and her cat, KiKi.
Keena is preceded in death by her parents, Holton "Hoy" Hicks I and Dorsey Hicks; her brother, Holton "Frank" Hicks II and nephew, Holton "Buddy" Hicks III.
In accordance with Keena's wishes, a private cremation took place at Coffman Funeral Home & Crematory. No further services scheduled at this time.
Keena Wagers Hicks will be dearly missed but forever remembered as a passionate, strong-willed individual who lived life to the fullest and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those lucky enough to have known her. May she find eternal peace and rest in the arms of her Creator.
