Kenneth Elwood Phillips, 92, of Mt. Sterling, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2024.  He was born on January 8, 1931, in Little Rock, Kentucky to the late John Thomas and Mary Emma Barbee Phillips.

 

Ken graduated from North Middletown High School in Bourbon County, class of 1948, and went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force for the next twenty years.  After retiring from the Air Force, he started his career as an Electrician and went on to work for the VA Hospital in Lexington.  Ken was well known for being a jack of all trades, he particularly loved woodworking in his free time and having coffee at the local McDonalds every morning with his friends.  Ken was best known as “grandpa” to everyone.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends alike. 

 

Ken is survived by his wife Phyllis Drennen Phillips, whom he married on March 5, 1956, in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church; two sons, Brett Phillips (Treva) of Dayton, Ohio and John Phillips (Delana) of Stanton; two daughters, Jonell Parker (JC) of Sawanee, Georgia and Amy Crouch of Mt. Sterling; seven grandsons, Jeremy Phillips (Jacquelyn), Kyle Phillips, Andrew Phillips, Jay Parker, Noah Parker, David Crouch (Stacy) and Chris Crouch; one granddaughter, Katie Watkins (Logan); many great grandchildren. 

 

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Phillips and John Phillips as well as one sister, Margaret Parido. 

 

Memorial service will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.   Visitation will be held from 5:00PM – 7:00PM on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.  Both will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 West Main Street Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353.  Committal will follow the service at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.  Father James Kinney will be officiating. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
