Larry Michael Thomas, 66, of Lexington, died Sunday, July 27, 2014 at his residence. He was born July 17, 1948 in Mt. Sterling to Henryetta Toy Thomas and the late John Mark Thomas.
Larry was a native of Bath County; formerly a resident of Montgomery County and for the past 10 years, a resident of Fayette County. He was a member of Gateway Christian Church, Lone Oak Golf Course and their senior league. Sgt. Larry Thomas honorably served two tours in the United States Army during the Vietnam War in the Americal Division Helicopter Unit. He received a Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Aircraft Crewman Badge. Larry was responsible for erecting the Vietnam Memorial that currently stands in front of the Montgomery County Courthouse. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Thomas Hager (Steve) of Jeffersonville; his mother, Henryetta Toy Thomas of Sharpsburg; four grandchildren, Emilee and Lillie Hager of Jeffersonville, and Peyton and Clayton Thomas of Winchester; half brother, John Richard Thomas of Lexington.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Geoffrey Michael Thomas; Geoffrey and Jennifer's mother, Linda Isaacs Thomas.
