Leatha May Powell

Leatha May Patton Powell, 85, of Jeffersonville, died Thursday morning, August 1, 2013 at her residence following a brief illness. She was born in Montgomery County on September 14, 1927 to the late Roy and Rhoda Willoughby Patton.

Leatha was a native of Montgomery County; she worked at Hobart, which was later Whirlpool, until her retirement in 1985. Her life revolved around her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She will be remembered by those who knew her as a true Christian lady who touched many lives and set an example while serving the Lord. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, cooking, and nature. She especially enjoyed the beauty of her flower garden and humming birds. Leatha will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

Leatha is survived by; two sons, Roy Powell of Jeffersonville and Michael Powell of Mt. Sterling; one daughter, Leona Besselman of Jeffersonville; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Ernest Powell; two sons, James Powell and Garnett Powell; five brothers, Clyde Patton, Glydis Patton, William Patton, Edmond Patton, and Charlie Patton; five sisters, Onie Curtis, Rethe Willoughby, Vernice Willoughby, Ola Patton, and Louise Patton; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Powell.

Pallbearers: Chuck Oakley, Charles Hall, Tony Nester, Donnie Martin, Timmy Shawn Martin, and Todd Johnson.

Honorary Pallbearers: Colyn Hall, Michael Powell, and Charlie Dunn.
