Leroy Catching, 73, of Frenchburg, died Monday, June 23, 2014 at Edgewood Estates. He was born October 8, 1940 in Berea to the late Henry Clay and Gladys White Catching.
Leroy lived most of his life in Lexington before moving to Frenchburg five years ago. He was an accomplished basketball player; playing in high school and on the college level at Jackson State University. He worked as a waiter at a country club in Richmond, a corrections officer at the Indiana State Prison, he owned and operated his own cleaning service in Lexington, and in later years he was employed by Pieratts in Lexington until his retirement. He was an Elder in the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses since the 1970's. He loved Jehovah and speaking to others about Jehovah's righteous New World. He looked forward to the day when he could see his family and friends again in the resurrection. Acts 24:15.
Survivors include; his wife, Phyllis Buchanan Catching; two brothers, Ralph and Donnie Catching; one daughter, Clarissa; three grandchildren, Kaleb, Alexia and Saniyya; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Craig Catching; three brothers, Cecil, Clay and Lawrence; two sisters, Josephine and Edna.
A special acknowledgement to the staff at Edgewood Estates for the extraordinary care given to Leroy during his residence there.
Memorial service will be at a later date at the Alumni Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Lexington, Kentucky.
