Lloyd "Moon" Gay Rawlings Cassidy, 87, husband of 61 years to Linda Hunt Cassidy died Monday, July 1, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 6, 1936, to the late Ewell and Edna Rawlings Cassidy in Bethel, KY.
Lloyd was a member of Gateway Christian Church, a graduate of Montgomery County High School and Eastern Kentucky University. Throughout his life, he made significant contributions to his community and country. He was a veteran of the United States Army, retired as Captain following 28 years with the Kentucky State Motor Vehicle Enforcement and a County Commissioner for Montgomery County for 17 years. Lloyd's commitment to public service and law enforcement was unwavering, and his impact on those around him will be remembered for generations to come.
He enjoyed the simple joys of life, from camping and traveling to cheering on the UK basketball team, golfing, and fishing. His winters in Florida brought him peace and relaxation, and his passion for life was evident in all that he did.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey Cassidy (Stacey); a son, Todd, who preceded him in death (Tamara) and a granddaughter, Olivia Kay; two brothers, Don Cassidy (Dollie) and Jerry Cassidy (Linda); a sister-in-law, Bonnie Cassidy and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Moon was also preceded in death by a step-mother, Bernice Cassidy; two brothers, Ted Cassidy and H.C. Cassidy.
A memorial service will be held at Gateway Christian Church, Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 11:00AM. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 5:00PM-8:00PM at the church. Committal service will follow at Longview Cemetery with military rites in Bethel. Officiants will be Pastor Bill Kilgore and Glenn Emery.
As we reflect on Lloyd's life, let us remember his kindness, his dedication to serving others, and the love he shared with all who knew him. May his spirit live on in our hearts forever.
