Margaret Stephens Short, 78, of Mt. Sterling, passed away peacefully Monday evening at her residence. She was born April 3, 1935 in Magoffin County to the late Judge and Maudie Stephens.
Margaret moved to Montgomery County fifty-four years ago from West Liberty, she was a member of the Kiddville Baptist Church, and a former employee of Cowdens. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, farming, raising turkeys, listening to Bluegrass music and dancing. For those that knew her, said, "Margaret was the hardest working woman in Montgomery County". Margaret also founded the Short Residential Care Home for veterans and is currently in operation today by her daughter. Margaret will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include; her husband of sixty-two years, Charles Short of Mt. Sterling; two daughters, Brenda Wattenberger and Wanda Short, both of Mt. Sterling; one grandchild, Melanie Mann (Randy) of Mt. Sterling; two great grandchildren, Margaret Ashley Hall and Hobie Hall, both of Mt. Sterling; three brothers, Ray Stephens, Barney Stephens (Doris) and Earl Stephens all of Mt. Sterling; two sisters, Helen Curtis (Jerry) and Betty Stephens, both of Mt. Sterling and her caregiver, Regina Wall of Mt. Sterling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, C.D. Short and a brother, Harold Stephens.
Funeral will be Friday, December 20, 2013 at 12:00PM. Visitation will also be Friday, December 20, 2013 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at Queen Street Christian Fellowship. Rev. Ray McIntosh will be officiating. Burial will follow in Machpelah Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Randy Mann, Randy Short, Doug Keith, Hobie Hall, Shane Oldfield and Ricky Oldfield.
Honorary Pallbearers: Danny Nickels, Linnie Shaw, Douglas Stephens, Steve Cooper, Ronnie Little, Larry Thompson, Hobert Hall, Jimmy Murphy, Roger Murphy and Dean Stephens.
