Mary Tom Jewell Ensor, 95, of Mt. Sterling, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at her residence. She was born in Mt. Sterling on January 26, 1926 to the late James William and Lena Campbell Jewell.
Mary Tom was a native of Montgomery County, a member of First Church of God, a retired owner and operator of Tommie's Styling Salon and a graduate from the 1944 class of Mt. Sterling High School. Mary Tom enjoyed traveling with her friends and dining out at different restaurants. She also enjoyed a half a cup of fresh HOT coffee, requiring an extra cup. She always took care of others and enjoyed planning special dinners for the "Martha's " of the church, recognizing those that didn't always receive recognition. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Mary Tom is survived by her two nieces; Jacqueline Becraft Mefford of Niles, Michigan and Cheryl Jewell Mahler (John) of Mt. Sterling; one niece-in-law, Patty Murphy Jackson of Clearwater, Florida; seven great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary Tom was preceded in death by two brothers; John W. Jewell and Elwood C. Jewell; three sisters: Margaret Jewell, Grace J. Becraft and Mable Jackson; one nephew; Claudie Jackson and her special companion of forty-three years, "Mr. B." Ewell T. Bennett.
The family would like to recognize with a special thank you to her caregivers; Joetta Jones Botts, St Claire Hospice and The Way Home. "You will always have a special place in our hearts."
Funeral Service will be held at 12:00PM on Tuesday, November 2, 2021; visitation for family and friends will be prior from 11:00AM - 12:00PM. Both will be held at First Church of God, 1051 Camargo Road, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Pastor David Dooley and Reverend Keith Ruthenburg will be officiating. Committal will follow at Machpelah Cemetery.
Pallbearers: John W. Mahler, Brian Mahler, Elgin "Junior" Bailey, Lonnie Vice, Gary Lawson and Kent Evans.
Honorary Pallbearers: Roger Hart, Gerald Sanetznik and The Heritage Sunday School Class of the First Church of God.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Church of God-Sound System, 1051 Camargo Road, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353 in Mary Tom’s honor.
