Mt. Sterling

With heavy hearts but also profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Maxine Tipton Sparks, who peacefully departed this world on February 15, 2024.  She was born on January 7, 1931, in Ravenna, KY, to the late Clyde, Sr. and Merrell Griggs Tipton.

Maxine was a dedicated member of Howards Mill Baptist Church, where she found comfort and support in her faith. She had a strong work ethic and spent many years employed at A.O. Smith Corporation. Her dedication to her job was a testament to her drive and determination. Her personality brought laughter and inspiration to all who knew her. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and watching birds, especially hummingbirds. Maxine enjoyed reading a variety of books, especially her Bible, which she read daily.  She also had a passion for hosting and attending yard sales, always on the lookout for hidden treasures or sharing stories with fellow enthusiasts.   In her later years, Maxine found joy in attending the weekly luncheon for senior citizens at the Civic Center. Surrounded by friends and laughter, she embraced life fully, cherishing every moment.

Maxine's warm and encouraging nature made her the heart of the family. She loved spending time with her devoted son, Andy Sparks (Karen) of Mt. Sterling, her loving daughters, Ramona Hudson (Steve) of Paris, Pam Jones (Tom) of Frankfort and, Debbie Dorton of Lexington; grandchildren, Michael Jones (Jessica) of Mt. Sterling, Brent Hudson (Laurie) of Richmond, Leah Shannon Church (Russell) of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Nathan Jones (Katie) of Frankfort, Blake Hudson (Traci) of Mason, Ohio, Breck Dorton (Leighanne) of Greenville, South Carolina, Will Dorton (Nicole) of Lexington and Abbie Thornberry (Michael) of Lexington; sixteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Together, they created treasured memories that will endure for generations to come.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Rodney Sparks; her infant son, Eddie Sparks; son-in-law, Richard Dorton as well as her siblings, Lucille Tipton, Clyde Tipton, Jr., Edward Tipton, Vernon Tipton and James Tipton.
