Michael Edward Gatewood was born on June 5, 1953 to the late Daisy Brown and Charles Gatewood in Mt. Sterling, KY. He departed this life on Friday, August 10, 2018.
At a young age, Michael confessed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at the High Street Christian Church in Mt. Sterling by the late Reverend George Frazier.
He attended elementary school at Dubois and was a graduate of Mt. Sterling High School. He played on the 1969 State Championship Football Team, Trojan Basketball and Track Team.
Michael also graduated from the Lexington Vocational School where he completed the Culinary Arts Program. An excellent cook, he worked as a chef in several capacities one of which was the first manager of the Winchester, KY McDonald's Restaurant. Michael was a quiet person, offering little conversation or complaint, but friendly and of good nature. He loved his family dearly and his children and grandchildren were the pride of his life.
He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Nicole Garrett of Mt. Sterling, Khristopher Gatewood (Chelsey) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Khristen Gatewood of Louisville, four grandchildren Malik Gatewood, Rashad Gatewood, Khai Gatewood of Cedar Rapids Iowa and Kaden McCormick of Louisville, six brothers Dwight Gatewood (Devra) of Lexington, Bruce Gatewood of Mt. Sterling, Earl Gatewood (Barbara) of Mt. Sterling, Donnie Gatewood of Georgia, Charles Murriel of Detroit and Daryl Murriel of Lexington, two sisters, Brenda Simpson of Newport and Jill Murriel of Detroit and one step sister Michelle Groves of Louisville.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers James Watson Gatewood and Gilbert Gatewood.
Memorial Service Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 12:00PM. Visitation gathering prior to service from 11:00AM - 12:00PM, both held at High Street Christian Church in Mt. Sterling. Officiating will be Reverend Darrell Hayden.
