Michael Howard Hanson, 58, of Mt. Sterling, died Monday, February 17, 2020 at his residence. He was born on January 9, 1962 in San Jose, California to the late Edward, Sr. and Paula Hill Hanson.
Michael moved to Mt. Sterling in 1975 and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Morehead State University, class of 1985 and pursued a career as a medical photographer for University of Kentucky Ophthalmology Department. Michael enjoyed woodworking, fishing, sailing, riding dirt bikes and model trains.
Michael was involved in his community and impacted many lives, especially the local youth. He had a passion for photography, be it a sporting event, graduation ceremony, weddings, plays and other special occasions Michael was able to capture images that were breath taking. His friends, family and community will miss him dearly.
He is survived by two brothers, Chip Hanson of San Jose, California and Butch Hanson of Saratoga Springs, New York; one sister, Hazel Wolfe (John) of Mt. Sterling; one niece, Samantha Wolfe of Frankfort; his cousin Sarah Crain (Mark Allen) of Mt. Sterling and their son, John Mark Crain of Mt. Sterling; good friends, Tony and Jennique Tipton and his cat, "Flash".
Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 2:00PM. Visitation will be prior from 10:00AM-2:00PM. Both will take place at "The Arena" located at Montgomery County High School. Following Mass there will be a private Committal Service at St. Thomas Catholic Cememtery. Father Frank Brawner will officiate the service.
Pallbearers: Tony Tipton, Adam Tipton, Ben Tipton, Mark Allen Crain, Ray Robertson and John Wolfe.
Honorary Pallbearer: Stephen Robinson.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church at 139 West Main Street, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353.
