Michael William Mathis, 72, of Mount Sterling, passed away Friday morning, June 18, 2021 at Clark Regional Medical Center, Winchester. He was born on August 8, 1948 in Louisville, KY to Robert and Frances Bell Mathis.
Michael has been a resident of Montgomery County for seven years, moving from Louisville. He was of the Christian faith and attended Rolling Hills Church of Christ, he was a former member of Middletown Methodist Church in Louisville. He was a veteran of the United States Army, served in Vietnam and a member of the American Legion. He retired as a city transport operator servicing the city of Louisville. Michael enjoyed; square dancing, collecting model cars, going to car shows, working on cars, and watching Westerns. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of thirty-three years; Joyce Mathis; step-mother; Mary Mathis of Louisville; one son; Chris Mathis (Kari) of Dry Ridge; one daughter; Jill Williams (Jamey) of Sumter, South Carolina; six grandchildren; Drew Mathis, Kara Mathis, Kaelyn Mathis, Gillian Johnson, Jacy Dean and Josh Williams; three brothers; Bobby Mathis (Barbara) of Nashville, Tennessee, Jimmy Mathis (Jane) of Louisville and Mark Mathis (Sara) of Louisville; loving caregiver Erin Donaldson.

Memorial Service for Michael Mathis will be at 11:00AM Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Rolling Hills Church of Christ, Mt. Sterling. Committal will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville. Brother Dan Murphy and Brother Jerry Carmichael will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rolling Hills Church of Christ, 125 Rolling Hills Drive Mt. Sterling, KY 40353.
