On Sunday, December 9, 2018, Nancy Lynn Leitch Major, loving wife and mother of one child passed away at age 78 in her residence in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Nancy was born on January 15, 1940 in Cincinnati, Ohio. On June 4, 1964, she married William “Bill” Major in Cynthiana, Kentucky and was a graduate of Western Kentucky University. She moved to Mt. Sterling in 1972 from Russellville, Kentucky, was a member of the First Christian Church and a retired legal secretary for Tyke Bryan. She enjoyed; fishing, gardening and leading Bible study.
One of her biggest passions was being an assistant curator for the Kentucky River Museum at Fort Boonsboro State Park where her grandfather lived, was the #10, Lock Master and her childhood home was. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and church family.
Survivors include; one son, Chris Major (Paige) of Naples, Florida; two grandchildren, Laurel Major and Blaine Major, both of Naples, Florida; eight cousins, Jenmarie Sowers, Joanne Allen, Martha Ann Riggs, Becky Plummer, Ronny Richards, Marian Bartley, Barbara Walters and Doug West; three special friends, Becky Woodard, Linda Yarber and Bernetta Copher; her beloved cat, Dasiy Darlin. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William “Bill” Major and her mother, Mary Katherine McCauley Walters.
Celebration of Life Memorial service to be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 1:00PM. Visitation will be prior from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at First Christian Church, 222 West Main Street, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Pastor Scott Holley will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Kentucky River Museum, c/o Fort Boonesborough State Park, 4375 Boonesborough Road, Richmond, Kentucky 40475.
