It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rickey Carl Hancock, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, who departed this life on January 28, 2025, at the age of 67. Rickey was born on August 4, 1957, in Eubank, Kentucky to the late Carl and Josie Hart Hancock, where he was also baptized in the Baptist faith at the tender age of 12.
Raised in a close-knit community, he graduated from Eubank High School in 1975 and furthered his education at Morehead State University. Rickey dedicated his career as a materials manager in the healthcare industry, bringing his expertise and work ethic to the field until his retirement.
Rickey's life was marked by his passions and interests. He was an avid reader who cherished his visits to the Montgomery County Public Library, often humorously noted by his family for "always having that nose of his in a book." His love for bluegrass music and fishing brought him joy, as did his time spent with friends and family. A Kentucky Colonel, Rickey had a jovial and light-hearted spirit, using humor to defuse tension and brighten the lives of those around him.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 37 years, Ruth Stephenson Hancock, and their two sons, Jared Hancock, and Brian Hancock; sister, Holly Stringer (Gene); brother, Phillip Hancock; doggo's, Wiley and Ladybug; his "3rd son", Thomas Conlee, and several nieces and nephews. Rickey's legacy will continue through the warmth of his family and the joy he brought to those fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to Rickey's parent's, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Gregory Hancock, and Marshall Hancock.
Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 12:00PM. Visitation will be prior from 10:30AM to 12:00PM. Pastor Chris Wells.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made in Rickey's memory to the Montgomery County Public Library, 328 North Maysville Street, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353.
As we come together to honor Rickey, let us remember him not only for his achievements and wit but for the love he instigated and the laughter he spread throughout his life.
