Robert Anderson Glass

May 21, 1956 — November 9, 2019

Robert Anderson Glass, age 63, departed this life to be with our Savior on Saturday, November 9, 2019 following a long battle with cancer.

Born May 21, 1956 to the late Thornton Scott and Geneva Parkhurst Glass, he lived most of his life in the Roanoke and Vinton, Virginia area.  He moved from Colonial Heights, VA to Washington, KY last December -  both to be near Ardith and to fulfill his love of preaching by becoming the minister for the Mason County Church of Christ.  Robert preached his first sermon as a young teenager and loved to study the Bible, baptizing numerous individuals as a result.  He volunteered as a teacher for the International Bible Teaching Ministries – an online Bible correspondence course.

Robert attended Freed-Hardeman College, Virginia Western Community College, before graduating from Ferrum College where he studied Bible, music, and journalism.  In 1977, he enlisted in the US Air Force.   Although he was only able to serve a short while, he never ceased to be a proud devoted supporter of the armed forces.

Robert enjoyed country music, playing the guitar, and even writing songs – one of which he sung on the Grand Ole Opry back in 1973.  He held an Amateur Radio license for many years and had a passion for broadcasting.  A few years ago Robert and his life-long college friend, Harold Minton, fulfilled their 40-year dream of owning their own radio station - by creating and launching WSSE, an online radio station accessible via the internet.  In just two years, the newly created station grew beyond imagination with listeners in more than 120 countries.   Robert was able to DJ a show from his home until a few weeks ago when his health finally failed.  But Robert’s biggest thrill was playing Santa Claus - seeing all those children’s smiling faces.

Robert is survived by the love of his life and new bride, Ardith Justice Glass of Mt. Sterling; three sons, Carl Andrew Glass of Roanoke, VA, Jonathan Edward Glass (Kristi) of Richmond, VA and Brian Patrick Glass also of Richmond, VA; one step-son David Lee Daniel, Jr. of Lexington; one granddaughter, Lila Glass; one step-grandson, Evan Taggart; three sisters, Cecilia Mercer (Sherrel) of Edna, TX, Kathy Pearson (Bobby) of Alexandria, AL and Nancy Mannon (Roger) of Floyd, VA; sister-in-law, Diann Donaldson (David) of Mt. Sterling and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his step-mother, Audrey Reese Glass, and his first wife, Beth Ann Bumpus Glass.

Funeral will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 11:00AM, visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00PM-7:00PM.  Both services will be held at Rolling Hills Church of Christ. Committal will follow at Machpelah Cemetery.  Brother Dan Murphy and Jerry Carmichael will be officiating.

In-lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Rolling Hills Church of Christ Bible Camp at 125 Rolling Hills Drive, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353 or Mason County Church of Christ at PO Box 233, Washington, KY 41096.

Pallbearers: Jim Bisotti, Ronnie Cooper, Eddie Ingram, Mike Donaldson, Kenny Gulley, Doug Trent, Mike Evans and Jerry Carmicheal.

Honorary Pallbearers: David Donaldson, Don McCleese, David Lee Daniel, Jr., Jimmy Welch and Harold Minton.
