Romie Gayhart, 83, of Winchester, Kentucky died early Friday morning, May 17, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Garrett, Kentucky on February 22, 1930, to the late Kelly Gayhart and Bertha Centers Ward.
Romie was a United States Army Veteran and a member of the DAV Chapter 149. He was an Army First Class Private receiving the Occupation Medal (Germany) and Good Conduct Medal. He retired from Armco Steel in Ashland, Kentucky. In 2006 "Opa and Nanna" moved to Winchester from Ft. Myers, Florida where they had lived for 22 years.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty L. Adams Gayhart of Winchester; two sons, Terry L. Gayhart (Aniko) of Jonestown, Pennsylvania and Don V. Gayhart (Debra) of Winchester; one daughter Noleeka "Keeko" Gayhart DuJardin (Craig) Jeffersonville; two grandsons, Dylan Gayhart of Winchester and Thor DuJardin (Ashley) of Jeffersonville; two granddaughters Sarah Gayhart of Winchester and Romeeka Gayhart of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; one great-granddaughter, Persephone DuJardin and one step great-granddaughter Cadence Farmer both of Jeffersonville; two brothers Kelly Gayhart (Pat) of San Angelo, Texas and Garner Gayhart of Flatwoods; three sisters Georgia Allen (Curt) of Flatwoods, Watheta King and Debra Durham (Ron) both of Lexington; a brother-in-law, Homer Ryans of Neoga, Illinois.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by; two brothers, Danny Ward and Wilkie Gayhart; and a sister, Ruby Ryans.
Graveside rights will be held May 28, 2013, at the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, KY at 2:00 PM. All friends and family welcome.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be in memory of Romie Gayhart to Hospice East, 407 Shoppers Drive, Winchester, KY 40391.
