Steve Givens, 66, of Mount Sterling, KY, departed this life peacefully Friday morning, June 10, 2016 at St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling, KY. Steve was born June 29, 1949 in Lexington, KY to the late Richard Givens and Predella Givens Lewis.
Steve was a 1968 graduate of Henry Clay High School. While attending Henry Clay High School, Steve won the honor of being selected to be on the Kentucky All-State Football Team and the honor of playing in the Kentucky East-West High School All Star Football Game. As a part of the East Squad, Steve was labeled "The aggressive pass rusher and tackler." While attending Henry Clay High School he received a football scholarship to attend Morehead State University. Morehead State University is where he met his lovely wife Barbara. Steve moved to Montgomery County in 1992 from Lexington, KY. Steve was an avid sports fan and enjoyed board and card games.
Steve retired in 2005 after thirty-five years as a Sheet Medal Journeyman with the Local Union #110 of Sheet Metal Workers' International Association of Louisville, Kentucky.
Survivors include; his beloved wife of forty-six years Barbara Givens of Mt Sterling; one brother John Givens (Shirley) of Memphis, Tennessee; two aunts Linda Spearman and Marjorie Poole both of Lexington; two sister-in-laws Helen Chambers (Lewis) of Cincinnati; Bertha Smathers (James) of Mt. Sterling; two special friends, Hobert Owens and George Scott both of Mt. Sterling and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his son Damon Todd Givens; brother Glenn Givens and sister Diana Brown Findley. Steve's laughter will be dearly missed by his family, relatives and friends.
