Sylvia Gay Medders Hawks

Sylvia Gay Hawks, 83, born on August 9, 1941, in Fayette, Alabama, to the late James and Molly Kelly Medders. Passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her family. Sylvia was a cherished homemaker, whose warmth and love created a nurturing haven for her family.

Her joyous spirit was reflected in her radiant smile and infectious laughter, which touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Sylvia was an enthusiastic fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. She shared her love for life with her beloved husband, who led worship at various churches throughout their years together.

Sylvia is survived by her sons, Mark Hawks (Wenda) and Jeff Hawks (Jane), who carry forward her legacy of love and devotion. Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye: Andrew Hawks, Chad Hawks (Beth), Hannah Hawks Bender (Greg), Christen Brabenac (Jimmy), and Caitlin Argento (Steve). Their laughter and accomplishments filled her heart with unparalleled joy. Additionally, she was a proud great-grandmother to Joshua Hawks, Benton Bender, Silas Bender, Barrett Bender, Cy Brabenac, Jay Brabenac, Adalynn Hawks, Peyton Brabenac, Cole Hawks, and Claire Hawks; brother, Mike Medders (Lynn) and a sister, Glenda Medders.

In addition to Sylvia's parents, she is preceded in death by the love of her life, Rev. Harold Hawks, and eight siblings.
