It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved Father, LaLa and Graddy, Vance Reid Evans, Jr. Reid was born December 15, 1942, to the late Vance R. Evans, Sr. and Maryann Young Evans. He passed away at his home of fifty-two years on his beloved Deer Park Farm in Mount Sterling, Kentucky at the age of 81.
Reid served in the US Navy and was a proud lifelong resident of Montgomery County. In addition to being a farmer, he was past director of Farm Bureau Insurance, Hurst Home Insurance Company and Montgomery County Soil Conservation Service. Additionally, Reid served as Advisor Director of the Exchange Bank and Community Trust Bank and as a Trustee of Mary Chiles Hospital. Reid was a committed and celebrated community volunteer. His accolades include but aren’t limited to being the past president of Mount Sterling Rotary Club where he was the first Rotarian to receive the Paul Harris Fellow Award, a volunteer at the Montgomery County Council for the Arts, Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the year in 1994 and Diamond Citizen of the year in 2016.
Reid was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Moore Evans. He is survived by his son Vance Reid Evans III (Christie Reynolds Evans) and grandchildren Alley Marie and James “Case” Evans of Lexington, KY and daughter Megan (Michael) McCormick and grandchildren Noah Reid and Samantha Carol McCormick of Mount Sterling, KY. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Stan Rullman of Naples, Florida and his “Indiana” family Dr. Brian (Joni) Williams and their girls Shelby, Brooke and Olivia. Along with his wife Reid was also preceded in death by his brother Jimmy Evans and sister-in-law Bettie Lou Evans.
Reid was a simple man that was loved and respected by those from all walks of life. He could be found chatting it up with fellow farmers at the former Judy Store and out in town socializing at Mike’s Liquors. Reid lived his life for the day and did not fear what waited for him on the other side of death. He found great joy in cooking for his family, especially spaghetti for his grandchildren who fondly referred to him as “LaLa” and “Graggy” which later became Graddy; when in fact all he ever thought he wanted to be called was Grandfather! Reid hosted lavish holiday dinners for family and friends which will be missed among many other things. Reid enjoyed gardening of all types, often displaying his flowers for all to see when driving down Maysville Road in Mount Sterling.
