It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Vaughn Ray Spencer, left this world peacefully on December 16, 2024, at the age of 68. Born on January 20, 1956, in Mt. Sterling. Vaughn dedicated his life to both his family and his career, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Vaughn serving as a Warehouse Manager for L3 Communications. An industrious worker, he brought the same commitment to his job as he did to every aspect of his life. Yet, his true passions lay in the outdoors. A member of the Houndsman Association and an avid hunter, Vaughn claimed victory at the Kentucky State Championship for Coon Hunting in 2014 and celebrated as the English Days Champion of the Hunt in 2021. His love for deer hunting, fishing, and bluegrass music enriched the lives of those around him.
Family was Vaughn's greatest treasure. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra Spencer, and their three sons, Daniel Spencer (Stephanie), Jared Spencer (Erica Donathan) and Jordan Spencer (Carrie). He was a proud grandfather to Alexandria Spencer, Dylan Spencer, Jesse Browning, Augustus Spencer, Wyatt Spencer, and Ezra Spencer. Vaughn cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and was especially proud when Augustas, at just six years old, became the youngest winner of the Kentucky State Youth Hunting Championship in 2022.
Vaughn is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Charlene Craig Spencer and two siblings, Sandy Spencer and Roger Spencer, and his grandson, Gannon Spencer.
Vaughn was not just a competitor; he was a coach, mentor, and role model, sharing his knowledge and passion for hunting with those he loved. As an avid fan of UK basketball, he would often be found cheering for his team, embodying a spirit of enthusiasm that was contagious among friends and family alike.
Vaughn's legacy will be honored in a ceremony that will take place at a future date.
In this time of reflection, we celebrate a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and brought joy to all who crossed his path. Vaughn's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved and admired him. Rest in peace, Vaughn Ray Spencer. Your legacy continues through your family and the countless lives you touched.
