Walter Stephen Goodpaster, 63, of Mt. Sterling, died Sunday morning, October 28, 2012 at UK Markey Cancer Center. He was born July 3, 1949 in Montgomery County to the late Walter Jackson and Mildred Pergram Goodpaster.
Stephen was a Montgomery County native, a graduate of Montgomery County High School, and he attended Rolling Hills Church of Christ. Stephen worked 27 years in maintenance for the Montgomery County School system before his retirement. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, he enjoyed history and war history, refinishing old military rifles, and he was an avid Louisville Cardinals fan.
Survivors include; his three children, Jenica Haggard (Chris) of Lexington, Isaac Goodpaster (Amber) of Mt. Sterling and Nathan Goodpaster (Jessica) of Lexington; three sisters, Robin Whitehouse (Don) of Louisville, Roslyn Goodpaster Lee of Mt. Sterling and Bonnie Trachsel of Danville; six grandchildren, Allie Chapman of Lexington, Benjamin Haggard of Lexington, Kyle Goodpaster of Mt. Sterling, Bela Haggard of Lexington, Kaylee Goodpaster of Mt. Sterling, and Jack Goodpaster of Lexington.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dallas Lee Goodpaster and Phillip Noel Goodpaster and one sister, Nancy Deloris Thompson Martin.
Funeral will be Friday, November 2, 2012 at 10:00AM at First Church of God. Visitation will be Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at First Church of God with Pastor Jeff Fugate officiating. Burial will follow in Machpelah Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Lonnie Anderson, Tim Keenan, Dennis Eaves, Chris Haggard, Alvin Collett, and Jim Brown.
